A Beautifully Simple Wedding in Old Monaco

When my bride Alice first reached out about her wedding in the heart of Old Monaco, she insisted the day would be “just a ceremony, nothing crazy.” Yet, as a wedding photographer, every ceremony, no matter its scale, holds layers of meaning and intimate moments, unique to each couple. Monaco’s old town, with its travertine streets, sea views, and timeless charm, set the perfect stage for this understated (if such a thing can be imagined in Monaco), emotional celebration.

Capturing the Essence of an Intimate Day

Simple doesn’t mean ordinary. My aim for this day was to make the couple feel seen, celebrated, and relaxed so their personalities and connection could truly shine through the photos. The ceremony itself was brief, official, and meaningful: no custom vows, just the exchange of “I do’s” in front of family and friends. Yet even in this formal setting, the emotion was unmistakable. The radiant faces, the clasped hands, a special moment with their three year old spoke volumes about the love within this small gathering.

Making a Small Wedding Special

An intimate wedding allows for authentic storytelling through photography. I focused on personal moments with family members and friends, capturing genuine emotion and joyful tears that might easily go unnoticed in a larger celebration. The smaller scale gave us a chance to linger in some of Monaco’s hidden corners after the ceremony: pictures in shaded gardens, in front of historic chapels, and along cobbled paths looking over the sparkling Mediterranean.

The day wrapped with a simple toast and warm embraces, but the joy in the air felt boundless. Every wedding, no matter how small, is a universe of memories for those involved. My hope is that these photos will let the couple relive not only the “big” moments but also the quiet, precious details for years to come.

Final Thoughts

It’s always an honour to be invited into such an important chapter of a couple’s love story. Photographing a “just a ceremony” wedding in Old Monaco reminded me that intention and care can shape the most cherished wedding memories.
